
On Wednesday morning, Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah visited 11-year-old student Mohammed Al-Humidi at Al-Bashir Hospital, where he is receiving treatment after being set on fire by his classmates at Khalid bin Al-Walid School in Rusaifa.
Mahafzah met with the student’s mother and assured her that the Ministry would not tolerate any negligence in ensuring student safety.
The Ministry has launched an internal investigation and promised to take appropriate legal action against those responsible to prevent future incidents.
Mahafzah also contacted the Director of Family and Juvenile Protection to stay updated on the investigation’s progress.
The Ministry is committed to providing a safe learning environment and will continue efforts to improve educational standards in all schools.
The incident occurred when Mohammed was asked to retrieve a broom from the kitchen, where two older classmates restrained him, poured kerosene on him, and set him ablaze. A teacher saved him and rushed him to the hospital.
The Ministry has launched an internal investigation and is taking legal action against those responsible.
Mohammed remains in intensive care with second-degree burns.
