A South Korean high court has upheld the conviction of a 24-year-old man for multiple sexual offenses, including rape, after an unexpected piece of evidence emerged—a reflection captured on a washing machine lid.
According to reports, the victim provided CCTV footage to authorities, but the attack itself was not immediately visible. Investigators later noticed that the crime was reflected in the lid of a washing machine, ultimately confirming the assault.
The convicted man had already faced legal trouble for other crimes, including the alleged rape of a former girlfriend and engaging in sexual activity with a minor, according to South Korean media.
Initially sentenced to eight years in prison in November, he appealed the ruling. The high court later reduced his sentence to seven years, citing a settlement he had reached with one of the victims.
In addition to his prison term, the court ordered that he wear an ankle monitor for seven years following his release. He has also been barred from working in environments involving children, teenagers, and individuals with disabilities for the same period.
