The Traffic Department’s Operations Room Officer, Lieutenant Kifah Al-Hazaimeh, confirmed a significant rise in speeding during the final hour before Maghrib prayer (the evening prayer at sunset), resulting in multiple accidents since the beginning of Ramadan.
In statements on Amen FM Radio, Al-Hazaimeh reported a collision inside the Seventh Circle Tunnel, where one person was injured and a vehicle overturned. Immediate action was taken to clear the traffic impact.
The officer in charge of external patrols also reported handling multiple accidents, including a significant one early this morning. A tanker and cargo vehicle collided on the Desert Highway, spilling oil onto the road. The highway was closed for two hours to ensure safety.
Other accidents were reported on various roads. Two vehicles collided on the Wadi Araba Road, injuring two people who were rushed to Prince Hashem Hospital in Aqaba. A vehicle also overturned on Al Qweira Road, causing an injury that was treated at Al Qweira Medical Center.
Another accident occurred on the ascent of Thaghret Asfour towards Amman, injuring one person who was taken to the hospital. Additionally, a vehicle overturned on the Desert Highway heading south, resulting in moderate injuries treated at Ma’an Government Hospital.
Traffic authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, maintain a safe distance, adhere to speed limits, and stay in their lanes. Pedestrians are also reminded to use crosswalks and pedestrian bridges to avoid accidents.
