Republican Representative Brandon Gill introduced a bill on Monday to replace Benjamin Franklin with President Donald Trump’s image on the USD 100 bill.
The proposed legislation, titled the Golden Age Act of 2025, is co-sponsored by Representative Troy Nehls.
Gill stated, “There has been no one who has done more to bring America into the golden age than President Trump. Featuring him on the USD 100 bill is a small way to honor all he will accomplish these next four years.”
The bill would require the Secretary of the Treasury to release a preliminary design featuring Trump on the USD 100 note by Dec. 31, 2026. If passed, the new design would be circulated beginning in 2029, with all future USD 100 bills after Dec. 31, 2028.
Gill, a first-term congressman from Texas, emphasized Trump’s dedication to the country, saying to Fox News, “President Trump could be enjoying his golden years golfing and spending time with his family. Instead, he took a bullet for this country and is now working overtime to secure our border, fix trade imbalances, and make America energy independent again.”
The bill follows a similar proposal from Rep. Joe Wilson, who suggested featuring Trump on a new USD 250 note, which has garnered support from other conservatives.
However, changing the faces on US currency is a challenging process. The last time it happened was in 1929, when Andrew Jackson replaced Grover Cleveland on the USD 20 bill.
The idea of replacing Jackson with Harriet Tubman was first proposed during the Obama administration but never materialized. The Biden administration revived the effort in 2021, but it has yet to be completed.
Additionally, US law would need to be amended to allow living individuals to be depicted on currency, a significant hurdle for any such change.
