4.1-earthquake hits south of Aqaba
Jordan Seismological Observatory recorded a 4.1-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale at 7:35 AM local time Thursday, south of the Gulf of Aqaba.
The observatory’s director, Ghassan Sweidan, said that the earthquake had a depth of 6 km and struck approximately 150 km south of Aqaba and 9 km east of Sharm El-Sheikh.
In a statement to Roya, Sweidan explained that the quake occurred along the Dead Sea Fault and was considered a “felt earthquake” but does not pose a threat to infrastructure.
