Environmental crisis: UNRWA warns of waste accumulation in Gaza
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) issued a warning on Thursday about the catastrophic environmental and health risks in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement on its “X” account, UNRWA highlighted that as of June 9, “over 330,000 tons of waste have accumulated in or near populated areas across Gaza, posing catastrophic environmental & health risks.”
The agency emphasized that “unimpeded humanitarian access” and a ceasefire are “crucial to restoring humane living conditions” in the Gaza Strip.
