US House passes bill to sanction ICC for pursuing Netanyahu, Gallant
The United States House of Representatives passed Tuesday a bill that sanctions the International Criminal Court (ICC) after the latter said it seeks arrest warrants over “war crimes” aimed at the “Israeli” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
All 205 voting republicans backed the bill , in addition to 42 Democrats – the bill passed with 247 votes for to 155 against.
The bill would apply economic sanctions and visa restrictions to individuals and judges associated with the International Criminal Court, in addition to their family members.
The measure passed in the Republican-led House of Representatives, but is expected to be curbed in a Senate led by Democrats.
Republican and Democratic leaders of the House Foreign Affairs Committee have said that the bill is unlikely to become law.
