Armed attack on US embassy in Beirut, Lebanon
The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) said that the United States embassy in Beirut, Lebanon was attacked by a gunman holding the Syrian nationality.
The LAF said the gunfire was directed towards the US Embassy, after which army personnel fired back at the source and wounded the gunman – an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances.
Roya’s correspondent in Lebanon said that “one of the guards at the Embassy was injured, one of the gunmen was killed, and another was injured and arrested, while the search continues for a third gunman.”
Initial media reports said that a number of gunmen attacked the embassy in the Awkar Area in Mount Lebanon; and one of them has been killed.
The US Embassy in Lebanon said that it was attacked with a light weapon near its entrance this morning, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances.
It added that its premises and staff are safe after the intervention of the Lebanese Army and the embassy’s security team.
