US Secretary of Defense: US would support “Israel” in event of an attack
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin affirmed that the US would support “Israel” in the event of an attack.
Austin reiterated Washington’s unwavering commitment to assisting Tel Aviv, while also emphasizing the importance of diplomatic efforts to mitigate further escalation.
Austin’s statements follow the Israeli Occupation assassination of Hamas’ political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, in Iran’s capital.
Haniyeh and one of his personal guards were killed following an attack on their residence, according to Iranian media.
Tasnim News Agency reported that Iranian authorities are currently investigating the assassination.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard also confirmed that they are examining the details surrounding Haniyeh’s death.
Haniyeh arrived in Tehran on Tuesday to attend the inauguration of Iran’s newly elected president, Masoud Bezhkishian, at the Iranian Parliament.
During his visit, Haniyeh met with Bezhkishian and Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
