Government announces major projects in Ma’an governorate
Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan emphasized the strategic importance of Ma’an Governorate in advancing development across Jordan, particularly in southern regions such as Petra, Shobak, and the Southern Badia.
He highlighted several national megaprojects set to pass through Ma’an in the coming years, including the National Water Carrier Project and a railway connecting Aqaba Port to phosphate mines in Shidiya, as well as the Ghor Al-Safi area and potash factories.
The government is also prioritizing the integration of the railway with the dry port in Ma’an and is working to revive the project, which had been halted in previous years.
“These projects will significantly contribute to fostering development, creating jobs, and stimulating ancillary sectors such as freight services in the governorate, further generating employment opportunities,” the prime minister stated.
Dr. Hassan also pointed to the promising potential of the Ma’an Development Area, which hosts pioneering projects across various sectors.
He affirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the area’s competitiveness, attracting more investments, and completing the gas supply project for the Rawdah Industrial Zone within two years, which will reduce production costs and boost the competitiveness of national industries.
During his visit, Dr. Hassan inaugurated the Ma’an Integrated Government Services Center, a model for delivering high-quality public services. He stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring accessible and efficient services across all public facilities.
Concluding his visit, the prime minister joined local youth in celebrating “Tree Day,” an initiative aimed at expanding Jordan’s forested and green areas to combat desertification.
He reaffirmed the government’s pledge to plant 4 million forest trees over four years, increasing the country’s forest cover by 110,000 dunums (110 square kilometers).
