Trump says republicans would have won in landslide if he were on ballot
US President Donald Trump reacted to the outcome of Tuesday’s midterm elections by stating that his party would have achieved victory had he personally been running.
On his Truth Social account he said “I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won in landslide!”
The shift in Washington’s balance of power was cemented as Decision Desk HQ projected that Democrats had reclaimed the House majority, ending a four-year Republican hold and ushering in a era of divided government.
Taking back the gavel poses an immediate roadblock for Trump’s legislative ambitions ahead of the new session in January, empowering House Democrats to counter administrative priorities on federal spending, immigration enforcement, global tariff rollouts, and military policy regarding the conflict in Iran.
Beyond policy obstruction, the incoming majority has signaled aggressive oversight operations aimed squarely at the executive branch. Committee leaders plan to launch wide-ranging probes examining the Jeffrey Epstein matter, reports of violence surrounding the administration’s mass deportation efforts, and the financial holdings of Trump and his family.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, poised to take the speaker’s gavel, underscored that oversight would be immediate, stating ahead of the vote that lawmakers intend to enforce accountability from “Day 1”.
By regaining majority control, House Democrats secure broad authority over committee schedules, hearing agendas, and subpoena power, giving them the legal levers to compel testimony and demand internal documentation across the administration.
