Netanyahu seeks renewed large-scale strikes on Iran, FT reports

  • ‘Israel’ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly pushed for renewed large-scale strikes on Iran, with the army preparing a multi-day bombing campaign targeting nuclear facilities and civilian infrastructure.
  • The Financial Times reports that President Donald Trump opposed restarting the conflict before the US midterm elections, leaving the decision on any new attack ultimately in Washington’s hands.

‘Israel’ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to resume large-scale military strikes against Iran and instructed the military earlier this month to prepare plans for a new major attack, the Financial Times reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

According to the report, the ‘Israeli’ army prepared a plan for a bombing campaign lasting several days, initially scheduled for October 10. The proposed operation would target Iranian nuclear facilities alongside civilian infrastructure.

The plan was not carried out after US President Donald Trump opposed restarting the conflict ahead of the US midterm elections, the newspaper reported.

The proposed operation would have involved a bombing campaign intended to surpass the intensity of the joint US-‘Israeli’ attack on Iran that began in February, according to the Financial Times.

‘Israeli’ officials have also provided an updated list of potential targets in Iran, drawing on newly obtained intelligence, the report said.

The military proposal may have been part of a broader effort to increase pressure on Tehran during ongoing negotiations, rather than an indication that a new offensive was imminent.

A renewed US-‘Israeli’ military campaign against Iran in the coming weeks remains a possibility, according to the report.

The current standoff centers on whether Washington and Tehran can reach an agreement or whether military action will resume. The United States is seeking to compel Iran to accept its terms in negotiations involving the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran’s nuclear program.

However, any decision to launch another attack ultimately rests with Trump, the Financial Times reported.

The reported preparations come amid continued tensions over Iran’s nuclear activities and control of the strategic waterway, which is critical to global energy shipments.
