One killed in China’s Hubei province highway landslide

A person died and seven went missing after a landslide destroyed a construction site in central China on Sunday, according to government officials.

Six people were found alive and injuries were reported. Officials in the Hubei province said that they are working to prevent future disasters in the area.

China’s Ministry of emergency management declared a level-four emergency response and sent officials to the site of the landslide to manage the emergency response.

The ministry also urged authorities to find the cause of the landslide.

Over the past few weeks, torrential rains, landslides, and heat waves have killed and injured dozens across China. Less than a week ago, at least 15 people were killed by floods in Chongqing, a city in southwest China.

Experts say the unpredictable weather is the result of climate change.

China’s government has issued warnings about rain and other natural disasters.
