China responds to drone attack on Kremlin

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Thursday that all parties “should refrain from any action that could further escalate the situation,” AFP reported.

This came after Russia blamed Ukraine for a foiled drone attack aimed at Putin.

“(On drone attack on Moscow’s Kremlin), We have noticed relevant reports. China’s position on the Ukraine crisis is consistent and clear. All parties should refrain from any action that could further escalate the situation,” she said.

Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press service confirmed that he was ‘not harmed’ in an overnight drone attack on the Kremlin, as reported by Russia Today (RT).

His office said in a statement that the operation that targeted Putin’s residence was a “planned terrorist act.”

Two unmanned aircrafts fell to the ground within the iconic Moscow complex, they added.

No changes were made to Putin’s work schedule, the statement explained.

Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the president was not at the location during the “Ukrainian UAV attack,” noting that he is currently working from his home in Novo-Ogaryovo in Moscow.

According to Russia’s statement, it reserves the right to retaliate in the way, place and time of its choosing.

“We consider this a preplanned terrorist action and an attempt against the Russian president,” the statement said, noting that the attack happened “ahead of Victory Day [when Russia celebrates the World War II defeat of Nazi Germany] and the parade on May 9, when foreign guests plan to be present.”
