- Border Guard units tracked the balloons before bringing them down inside Jordanian territory in coordination with military intelligence
- The operation marks the latest attempt by cross-border trafficking networks to utilize low-altitude
The Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) said Thursday that Border Guard units in the Eastern Military Zone intercepted an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of narcotics into Jordan using guided balloons.
Radar and border surveillance units tracked the balloons as they attempted to breach Jordanian airspace across the border early Thursday morning, according to a military statement.
Ground units engaged and brought down the airborne devices inside national territory, seizing the cargo strapped to them.
The operation was conducted in direct coordination with military intelligence, relevant security directorates, and the Public Security Directorate’s Anti-Narcotics Department. Authorities transferred the confiscated narcotics to competent judicial bodies for formal processing and investigation.
In its statement, the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces , Arab Army reaffirmed that border units will continue to counter infiltration and smuggling operations with full force, maintaining heightened operational vigilance as regional trafficking networks increasingly adapt remote and unmanned aerial mechanisms.
