‘Israeli’ forces torture toddler in Gaza to extract confession from father

- One-year-old Palestinian toddler tortured by ‘Israeli’ forces to pressure father.
- Child released after 10 hours; father remains in custody amid calls for international investigation.
A one-year-old Palestinian child, Karim Abu Nassar, was reportedly detained and physically tortured for 10 hours by ‘Israeli’ forces in what witnesses describe as an attempt to force a confession from his father, Osama Abu Nassar.
Incident Near Al-Maghazi
The abuse occurred near the Al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza. Karim and his father were traveling when troops opened fire. Eyewitnesses say Osama was taken to a nearby checkpoint for interrogation while soldiers left the toddler on the ground.
During the 10-hour detention, witnesses reported that Karim suffered severe physical abuse:
- Burns from cigarettes applied to his body.
- Nails were allegedly used to inflict pain, exploiting the child’s cries to pressure his father.
The toddler was eventually returned to his family through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), showing clear signs of trauma and injury.
Global Response
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned the treatment as “revolting,” urging the U.S. Congress and international bodies to investigate the conduct of ‘Israeli’ forces. Karim has been reunited with family members, but Osama remains in custody.
Human rights organizations emphasize that targeting children as a coercive tactic violates international law and constitutes a serious human rights abuse.
