  • Iran executes three men convicted of attacks on public buildings during January’s anti-government protests.
  • The executions come amid international calls for Tehran to halt the use of the death penalty.

Iran has executed three men convicted of carrying out attacks on public buildings and conducting operations on behalf of ‘Israel’ and the United States during January’s anti-government protests, Iranian media reported.

The men were identified as Hassan Dioband, Hamid Kazemi and Reza Zanganeh, according to the Fars News Agency.

Iranian authorities accused the three men of using firearms, grenades and Molotov cocktails, setting fire to public facilities and damaging an electricity substation in the city of Karaj, reportedly causing power outages in several areas.

According to the judiciary, the men were also accused of carrying out operations on behalf of ‘Israel’ and the United States.

The executions are the latest in a series of death sentences carried out in Iran in recent months in connection with the January protests, including cases involving individuals accused of links to ‘Israel’ and the United States.

The executions have prompted international concern, with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk urging Iranian authorities to halt all executions and take steps towards abolishing the death penalty.
