Iran accuses US of breaking international commitments

  • Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei accused Washington of undermining diplomacy following President Donald Trump’s remarks about the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU).
  • Baqaei said Trump’s reported admission that he never believed in the MoU and considered it a waste of time exposed the lack of sincerity behind US diplomatic commitments.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei has accused Washington of undermining diplomacy, saying US President Donald Trump’s remarks about the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU) exposed what Tehran views as a pattern of broken American commitments.

In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, Baqaei said Trump’s admission that he had never believed in the Islamabad MoU and considered it a waste of time demonstrated the lack of sincerity behind Washington’s diplomatic commitments.

“For Iran, this is nothing new,” Baqaei said, accusing the United States of repeatedly abandoning its commitments and treating international obligations as disposable when they become inconvenient.

The Iranian spokesman also criticized European governments and other countries he described as apologists for Washington, accusing them of shielding the United States from accountability for its conduct.

“Broken commitments cannot be excused, international law cannot be applied selectively,” Baqaei said, arguing that Washington’s actions should not be exempt from scrutiny.

His remarks came amid heightened tensions over diplomatic efforts involving Iran and the United States, with Tehran continuing to challenge Washington’s credibility as a negotiating partner.
