Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, on Sunday held talks on bilateral ties and regional developments, in addition to efforts to resolve regional crises, defeating terrorism and the culture of hatred in all its forms.
During talks held over the phone, the two ministers affirmed their keenness to develop bilateral cooperation and strengthen the already solid ties between the two countries in all fields and solidarity to counter the coronavirus pandemic and its impacts.
Safadi said that terrorism is a common enemy that does not belong to a civilization or religion and contradicts common human values, and has nothing to do with Islam and its values of peace and respect for the other, stressing the importance of promoting a culture of respect for the other and its sanctities and reject the culture of hatred in all its forms.
For his part, Le Drian emphasized that his country has a deep respect for Islam, and that Muslims in France are part of its history and identity, stressing that his country is fighting extremism and distorting religion.
He also stressed the importance of cooperation in efforts to combat terrorism and violence, and the promotion of joint action to spread tolerance and respect for religious freedom.
The two ministers highlighted developments in the region, especially those related to the Palestinian issue, as they stressed the need to create a real horizon for resuming serious and effective negotiations to resolve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.
Safadi expressed appreciation for France’s clear position in supporting efforts to achieve a just peace based on the two-state solution and in accordance with international law.
Both ministers affirmed the continuation of coordination and consultations regarding developments in the region and other issues of common concern with the aim of resolving regional crises and enhancing security and stability.
