Foreign Ministry on Saturday condemned the renewed storming of the holy Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif by Jewish extremists, with the permission Israeli forces, which allowed them to extend the time period for their raids.
Ministry spokesperson Deifallah Fayez said that extremists raids under the protection of the Israeli police are considered a violation of the legal and historical status quo and of the international law.
The extension of the period of the already rejected raids is considered to be a further violation of the status quo, Fayez added.
Fayez noted that the holy Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a pure place of worship for Muslims, and that the Jordan Jerusalem Awqaf Department (JAD) is the sole legal institution responsible for administrating the affairs of Al Aqsa Mosque, and organizing entry to it.
The Foreign Ministry’s official called on Israeli authorities to stop the violations, respect the sanctity of the mosque, respect the legal and historical status quo, and respect the authority of the JAD, warning of the consequences of these violations.
He also called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to pressure Israel to stop the ongoing violations of the Al Haram Al Sharif.
