Revenue from the income and sales taxes in the first nine months of 2020 hit a staggering JD3.51 billion, up by JD295 million or 9 percent from the JD3.214 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2019, according to official statistics.
The figures by the Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD) indicated that sales tax revenue in September reached JD360 million against JD325 million in the same month last year, marking a 10 percent or JD34 million.
Similarly, income tax collections picked up by 19 per cent or JD7 million in September, totaling JD44 million compared with JD36 million in the same month of 2016.
ISTD General Manager Hussam Abu Ali said revenue from income and sales taxes in September grew by JD41 million or 11 percent to a total of JD404 million against JD362 million in the same month last year.
In the January-September period, Abu Ali added, income from the sales tax amounted to JD2.549 billion compared with JD2319 billion in the same period of 2019, signaling in increase of 10 percent or JD230 million.
The nine-month revenue from the income tax stood at JD960 million, up by JD65 million or 7 percent from the JD895 million reported in the same period last year, Abu Ali indicated.
