A health official on Saturday said that the “Aman” application is demonstrating its effectiveness day after day in tracking contacts of Covid-19 infected cases and detecting the source of the novel coronavirus.
The number of application users has reached 1.1 million, and these applications are used in many countries such as Germany, New Zealand, Australia and the United States of America, and contain common features, according to Director of Communicable Diseases Department at the Health Ministry, Hadeel Al-Sayeh.
These features, Al-Sayeh added, include informing people whether they should undergo testing based on symptoms, and providing more efficiency in tracing contacts of infected people.
She explained that many people who had contact with infected cases have received alerts via the app, and they underwent a coronavirus test in hospitals and health centers, which led to an increase in the number of conducted tests.
In the Al-Bashir Hospital alone, Al-Sayeh noted, the number increased of tests has increased from 20 tests per day to 300 tests.
She indicated that the application had an active role in discovering many of the Covid-19 local cases that were tested in these centers.
She underlined that the application contributed to assisting the epidemiological investigation teams and easing pressure on them with the increasing number of cases in the Kingdom by alerting contacts immediately without waiting for them.
Al-Sayeh reiterated that the application maintains privacy, in accordance with the standards adopted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in developing the SafePaths application, which has the same work mechanism of the “Aman” application and stores the user’s whereabouts for the last 14 days on the mobile phone.
