The Kingdom’s Internet speed performance has posted a better ranking during the pandemic period, according to the Speedtest Global Index (SGI)

According to the SGI reports, Jordan jumped in the internet downloading speed during the Covid-19 pandemic, from 107th ranking worldwide in December 2019 to 87th last May, as further progress is expected in this field, which will see Jordan in the 67th placing in the report to be issued in July 2020.

In a press statement on Sunday, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Jordan’s Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), Ghazi Jabour, said a “significant improvement” in the rate of download speeds for cellular networks was achieved by 54% (28.26 Mbps) during the period from March 2 to the end of May.

The TRC, Jbour said, was the first regulatory body in the world to increase internet operators’ capacity of temporal frequency spectrum to counter the expected pressure during lockdown, which led to an increase in data traffic growth by 8%, and an improvement in user speed up to 73%.
