The value of Irbid’s exports for May amounted to $57 million, down by 15 per cent from the $67 million in the same period of 2019, according to the monthly exports report issued by the Irbid Chamber of Industry.
The number of certificates of origin for May reached 701 compared to 1,353 for the same period in 2019, the report revealed.
Exports from the Al Hassan Industrial Zone in the northern city accounted for the lion’s share with 97 percent of the total value, at $55.2, while the Cyber City Industrial Estate’s share was around $1.3 million.
The other governorate’s exports amounted at $600,000, while the value of exports according to the Arab countries’ agreement stood at $3 million, the chamber’s report pointed out.
Leather and textile sectors’ exports ranked first with a value of $ 51.5 million, followed by medical appliances at $2.9 million, and the chemical and cosmetic industries at $300,000.
The exports to the United States reached about 78 percent of the total and 7 percent to Arab markets, Chairman of Irbid Chamber of Industry Hani Abu Hassan said, noting that the exports destinations also included Canada, European and East Asian countries.
