The Egyptian Ministry of Health officially confirmed the infection of the first two cases with the newly identified EG 5.2 variant of the coronavirus.
The ministry said that tests conducted at monitoring centers for influenza-like illnesses, acute respiratory diseases, and pneumonia have yielded positive results for two individuals infected with the Omicron variant, specifically the EG 5.2 strain.
The ministry noted that both patients exhibited mild clinical symptoms and are currently in the process of recovery.
Emphasizing the significance of booster dose vaccination, the ministry stressed the importance, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and individuals with chronic conditions or compromised immune responses.
