Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, expressed Thursday that Jordan has surpassed its capacity in hosting refugees on its territory.
Safadi made these remarks during the Seventh Brussels Conference on ‘Supporting the future of Syria and the region,’ which commenced in Brussels, Belgium, on Wednesday.
Safadi highlighted that approximately 155,000 Syrian students are currently enrolled in Jordanian schools. He also emphasized that 50 percent of Syrians in Jordan are below the age of 15, and since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, approximately 200,000 Syrians have been born in Jordan.
The conference, organized by the European Union, includes Jordan’s participation. The Jordanian delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, also includes the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Toukan.
The conference aims to address the provision of support for the Syrian people and the countries hosting them, while renewing the international community’s political and financial assistance for Syria’s neighboring countries, including Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, and Iraq.
The overarching objective of the Brussels Conferences is to ensure sustained support for the Syrian people, both within Syria and in the broader region, by mobilizing the international community to endorse a comprehensive and credible political resolution to the Syrian conflict in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2254.
