Chairperson of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System, Samir Rifai, on Sunday met with Chairman of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Khaled Kalaldeh, and IEC members.

Both parties stressed the importance of benefiting from the IEC’s expertise in issues related to the electoral process and the need to provide the IEC with every resources that serves its work, according to an IEC statement.

Rifai said that the meeting comes within the framework of emphasizing the role of the IEC, “the first house of expertise in Jordan in procedures and issues related to the electoral process,” stressing the committee’s keenness to benefit from these expertise and leveraging them to develop legislation regulating political system in general.

For his part, Kalaldeh said that the IEC is keen to offer its expertise to the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System in its functional capacity, in addition to its role in managing and supervising elections in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, indicating that the IEC has transferred its knowledge and expertise to all those who sought to do so.

He explained that the IEC has many observations on procedural issues in the laws regulating the political system and that it will put them in the hands of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System.

Kalaldeh presented to Rifai a number of references, literature and research issued by the IEC, which serve any legislation in this field, stressing the IEC’s openness and keenness to succeed in its national mission, with the aim of modernising the political system.
