A field hospital built by the Ministry of Health near the Prince Hamza Hospital will soon be operational and start receiving coronavirus patients, according to ministry Secretary-General Wael Hayajneh.

He told local and foreign journalists taken on a tour of the hospital that the facility is fully equipped, including an intensive care ward with oxygen supply tubing, and staffed with medical, nursing and administrative cadres in line with up-to-date international standards.

The 403-bed hospital, which was opened by His Majesty King Abdullah last week, is the third in the Kingdom treating COVID-19 patients, and Hayajneh said the ministry will set up three other similar facilities in Irbid, Ma’an and Aqaba in the coming period.

The hospital is “a quantum leap” in the services provided to coronavirus patients, and is a real achievement given capacity and the speed with which it was accomplished, which did not exceed 30 days,” said the hospital’s director Khaldoun Allawi.

Allawi said that the hospital was fully equipped and staffed to accommodate rising COVID-19 infections, adding that the isolation and high control standards will help curb infections between the rooms.
