Iran says it exported 5.14 million tonnes of petroleum despite US blockade
- Iran says Shahid Rajaee Port exported 5.14 million tonnes of petroleum products in the first half of the year.
- The Trump administration recently imposed new sanctions on individuals, networks, and 17 vessels accused of transporting Iranian oil and petrochemicals.
Iran has reported exporting more than five million tonnes of petroleum products through its largest commercial port despite a US military blockade and mounting economic restrictions.
Hossein Abbasnejad, director general of the Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization, said 5.14 million tonnes of petroleum products were exported through Shahid Rajaee Port during the first half of the year, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency.
“Despite the unjust war and intensified economic restrictions … 5,140,000 tonnes of petroleum products have been exported from this port,” Abbasnejad said.
The reported exports come as Washington continues to increase economic pressure on Tehran amid the ongoing US-‘Israeli’ war on Iran.
The United States imposed a military blockade on Iranian ports in April after negotiations in Pakistan failed to produce an agreement to end the war.
Last week, the Trump administration announced new sanctions targeting individuals, networks, and 17 vessels accused of transporting Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, and petrochemicals, according to the US Treasury Department.
The latest measures aim to restrict Iran’s oil-related trade and revenue. However, the reported figures from Shahid Rajaee Port indicate that petroleum product exports continued during the period covered by the Iranian announcement.
The figures were reported by Iranian authorities and have not been independently verified. The available information does not specify how much of the exported petroleum products reached international markets despite the US restrictions.
