When the news reached Nisreen Skaik, she couldn’t hold back the tears.In a video shared by her family on Saturday, the young Palestinian girl from Gaza is surrounded by her loved ones as they celebrate the moment together, laughing, embracing, and crying with her. She had just learned she was a finalist in the junior category of the Digital Creator Awards 2026.

For Nisreen, the recognition comes after months of picking up her camera in a place where life has been upended by war. Through her social media posts, she has shown the world what everyday life looks like for Palestinians in Gaza during the ‘Israeli’ assault.

Her work has taken shape against a backdrop of displacement and hardship, where a normal childhood has become hard to hold on to.
