A tribute to Ms Ica Wahbeh

Yesterday, we lost a friend – and a family member. Ica Wahbeh was a pillar of The Jordan Times. She was also a central figure in our community.

Born and raised in Romania, she chose Jordan as her home and lived in Amman for more than four decades. Her love for Jordan was deep and sincere. Like us all, she affectionately embraced the warmth and generosity of Jordanian people. She devoted her life to advance media literacy, arts and culture in Jordan.

While doing so, she spared no effort to bring Jordan and Europe closer together. Her determination to advance peace, prosperity and equal rights for all in the region was exemplary. Her influence and moral authority was widely recognised.

True to her commitment to guide us and introduce Jordanians and Europeans to each other, she was behind numerous arts exhibitions, cultural events, small and larger gatherings where we all found a common ground. Generations of European diplomats posted to Jordan will cherish Ica’s memory and continue to carry her important legacy.

We deeply share her husband Hasan’s and her family’s grief and we mourn her loss.

Rest in peace, dear Ica.
