Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh Sunday received a copy of the 2019 annual report of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (IACC).

During a meeting with the IACC’s Chairman Muhannad Hijazi, the prime minister underlined the government’s commitment to combatting corruption and preserving public funds from transgressions as well as boosting the values of transparency and integrity in line with royal directives in the Letter of Designation and the Speech from the Throne.

Khasawneh stated that the government is also fully committed to cooperating with the Commission in reinforcing and boosting the national integrity system and promoting good governance in the administrative apparatus and the private sector, calling it “an inherent value in our Jordanian society.” The premier also warned that character assassination is a type of corruption.

The prime minister pointed out that his visit to the Commission after the formation of his cabinet was meant to send a clear message of support for the commission’s mandate and its anti-graft efforts.

He directed the ministries and government institutions to take seriously the recommendations and observations in the report and work to address them.

During the meeting, Chairman Hijazi said that reinforcing the national integrity system, preventing corruption and boosting good governance is the Commission’s main goal.

He stated that the IACC is also working to ensure legislation are amended to patch loopholes that may become a gateway for corruption, stressing that the recent amendments made to the Commission’s draft law enhance its independence and its ability to preserve public funds from any transgressions.
