Jordan has endorsed the United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF) “Sanitation and Water for All (SWA)” partnership which seeks to achieve universal access to clean drinking water and adequate sanitation.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Minister of Water and Irrigation Ra’ed Abu Sa’ud said the Kingdom’s endorsement of the global partnership underlines its commitment to ensuring sustainable water and sanitation services.

He stressed that Jordan maintains robust water and sanitation management given the fact that it is one of the world’s most water-scarce countries. The minister commended cooperation with multiple UN agencies to address water challenges.

Abu Sa’ud said the coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the importance of achieving the sixth 2030 Sustainable Development Goal: “Ensure Access to Water and Sanitation for All”.

He explained that the partnership focuses on ensuring adequate water and sanitation services and stronger multi-stakeholder coordination to boost those services’ resilience against challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
