Israeli Occupation imposes restrictions on Christian Palestinians on Holy Saturday

Saturday, the Israeli Occupation set up military checkpoints in the Old City of Jerusalem, to prevent those celebrating from reaching the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, according to Roya’s correspondent

Videos showed chaotic scenes taking place in the city of Jerusalem during the Holy Saturday, with Christian worshipers being assaulted by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF)

The imposed restrictions reduced the number of those celebrating the Holy Saturday at the Church, in continuation of the Israeli Occupation’s approach to violate Christian and Muslim sanctities

Jordan, in turn, had warned earlier of unjustified measures aimed at restricting the right of Christians to freely access to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, to practice their religious rites, which is rejected and condemned

The issued statement by Jordan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry also affirmed that the Israeli Occupation must respect the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its sanctities, stop all restrictive measures against the Christians of occupied Jerusalem, and refrain from any measures that would prejudice the freedom of worship in the holy places in occupied Jerusalem

The statement added that Jordan, and based on the historical Hashemite guardianship over the Islamic and Christian holy places in Jerusalem, will continue to take all possible steps to protect the sanctities and preserve the historical and legal status of the city of Jerusalem to be a key to peace and a symbol of tolerance and harmony
