The Palestinian Foreign Ministry Tuesday condemned an announcement by so-called “Temple Mount” group that it had agreed with Israeli police to extend the hours of their incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque as “a dangerous escalation” and an attempt to perpetuate the temporal and spacial division of the compound, one of Islam’s holiest shrines.

“This colonialist, Judaizational and racist move, which was made at the behest of far-right minister in the occupation government, Itamar Ben Gvir, is a dangerous escalation in the conflict arena”, the ministry said in a statement, warning against any such steps and their repercussions, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Palestinian ministry pointed out that the Israeli government seeks to appease its extremist allies to resolve its own crises at the expense of the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the introduction of radical changes to the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Jerusalem sanctities.

It called for US decisive action to pressure the Israeli government to halt all unilateral and illegal measures, “before it’s too late”.
