Three businesses shut down, half ton of spoiled potatoes seized in Irbid

Authorities in Irbid have shut down three businesses and confiscated 500 kilograms of spoiled potatoes as part of an intensified food safety campaign launched ahead of Ramadan.

The Public Health and Safety Committee in Irbid Governorate ordered the closures on Wednesday after inspectors discovered expired and improperly labeled food products. Ali Al-Hawamdeh, Assistant Governor of Irbid for Health and Public Safety, stated that some of the seized items had no expiration dates, while others had already expired, posing a risk to public health.

He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to ongoing inspections to ensure food safety standards are met.

In a related effort, health and environmental teams from the Greater Irbid Municipality seized and destroyed 500 kilograms of spoiled potatoes that were contaminated with mold and fungi. The disposal was carried out in accordance with public health regulations.

Yahya Al-Omari, Director of the Health Affairs Department at the municipality, emphasized that inspection teams are working around the clock to monitor markets during Ramadan.

He stressed the importance of continued vigilance to prevent violations that could endanger consumers.

Authorities urged businesses to adhere to food safety regulations, warning that violators would face legal consequences as inspections intensify throughout the holy month.
