Swedish police permit Quran burning protest near Stockholm Mosque

Swedish police granted permission for a demonstration where the organizer intends to burn a copy of the Holy Quran outside Stockholm’s main mosque on Wednesday, coinciding with the beginning of Eid Al-Adha, according to AFP.

In their official decision, the Swedish police stated that the security risks associated with the Quran burning “do not warrant, based on current laws, the decision to reject the request.”

This approval comes two weeks after a Swedish appeals court overturned a previous police decision to deny permits for two demonstrations in Stockholm involving the burning of the Quran.

The police had initially cited security concerns, as a similar incident outside the Turkish embassy in January led to weeks of protests, calls for a boycott of Swedish products, and hindered Sweden’s NATO membership aspirations.
