Remittances by Jordanian expats in Qatar at $155mln in first tertile of 2023

Jordanians working in Qatar sent home around $155 million (JD110 million) in remittances in the first tertile of 2023, an increase of 7.2 percent from the $144 million (JD102 million) recorded in the same period of 2022, according to Qatar-based exchange firms.

In interviews with the Jordan News Agency (Petra), they said that the sustained growth of remittances from Jordanian workers in Qatar is indicative of the rising number of the Jordanian community in the Arab Gulf nation. According to recent estimates, the number of Jordanians in Qatar now stands at 70,000 against 60,000 two years ago.

In Qatar, Jordanians work in a variety of occupations and industries, but they are particularly represented in the finance and banking sector, real estate and construction firms, the hospitality and tourism industry, and service and IT firms. However, the majority of community members are employed in government-run educational and medical facilities as well as private medical practices.

According to data recently released by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ), Jordanian expatriates’ remittances in the first tertile of this year reached about $1.1 billion (JD782 million) against $1.131 billion (JD802.3 million) in the same comparison period of last year.
