The European Union warned Israel against taking unilateral decisions to annex the Palestinian territories, stressing that it would not recognize any changes without the agreement of the two sides. This came in a statement issued on Monday by the Union’s High Representative for Security and Foreign Policy Josep Borrell.
And Borrell considered that “the two-state solution, with Jerusalem as their capital, is the only way to achieve sustainable peace and stability in the region.”
He added that the European Union will not recognize any changes to the 1967 borders, unless the Israelis and Palestinians agree to this. On the other hand, Borel congratulated Israel on its formation of the new government.
Borrell confirmed, on Saturday, that the union continues to work to prevent Israel from annexing Palestinian land.
And at the end of last April, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed with the leader of the “Kahal Lavan” party, Benny Gantz, his partner in the government coalition, to annex large parts of the West Bank, next July, and include the Jordan Valley and all Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
Palestinian estimates indicate that the annexation will reach more than 30 percent of the West Bank.
