The number of coronavirus cases in Africa went up to 81,307 on Sunday, said an update by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the center, 2,704 people were killed in virus-related complications, while 31,078 recovered.

The worst-affected region North Africa recorded 26,400 cases, 1,400 deaths and 10,700 recoveries.

West Africa recorded 23,600 cases, 490 deaths, and 6,800 recoveries.

Southern Africa reported 15,500 cases, 280 deaths and 6,900 recoveries.

East Africa reported 8,100 cases, 247 deaths and 2,600 recoveries.

South Africa has the highest number of cases in Africa with 14,300 cases, while Egypt recorded 11,700.

However, Egypt’s fatalities with 612 are more than twice that of South Africa with 261.

Ghana has 5,700 cases, Nigeria 5,600, Guinea 2,700, Senegal 2,400 and Cote d’Ivoire 2,100.

In East Africa, Sudan recorded 2,300, Somalia 1,400 and Djibouti 1,300.

Cameroon is the worst-affected in terms of cases in Central Africa recording 3,000 cases, the Democratic Republic of Congo 1,500 and Gabon 1,300.

On Saturday, the Horn of Africa nation, Eritrea announced it was virus-free with 100% recoveries after all 39 patients recovered with no new cases recorded.
