Coronavirus continues to spread in Eurasian countries

Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasia on Saturday.

Ukraine’s overall case count reached 17,858, with the death toll up to 497 and recoveries at 4,906.

In Moldova, two more people died of COVID-19, raising the death toll to 204. A total of 5,745 cases have been reported in the country to date, including 2,344 recoveries, according to health officials.

Ten more people also tested positive in Moldova’s autonomous region of Gagauzia, raising the total to 199, including eight deaths.

The country has extended restrictions for people older than 63 until June 30.

In Kazakhstan, 161 new cases raised the total to 5,850, including 34 fatalities. The state of emergency in the country was lifted at the beginning of the week, and train services are set to start from June 1.

In Azerbaijan, the overall case count is 2,980, including 1,886 recoveries and 36 deaths, according to the Health Ministry.

In Georgia, nine new COVID-19 cases raised the total to 680, including 12 deaths and 418 recoveries.

In Uzbekistan, nine more cases pushed the overall count to 2,691, including 2,158 recoveries and 11 fatalities.

A total of 474,000 tests have been conducted in the country so far, according to a top health official.

In Armenia, 239 new cases raised the total to 4,283, including 1,791 recoveries and 55 deaths, the Health Ministry said.

More than 4.56 million cases have been reported in 188 countries and regions since the virus emerged in China last December.

The US, Europe, and Russia are currently the hardest-hit areas.

The pandemic has claimed over 308,200 lives worldwide, while recoveries exceed 1.65 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
