Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Pan Weifang on Saturday called for collective efforts by all world nations to counter the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
He said in a press release that COVID-19 continues to spread worldwide and the control phase has become critical.
The envoy said that the pandemic should not be politicized, explaining such approach would seriously undermine the unity and cooperation of the international community, strain the global common defence and joint control effort and preclude countries from getting rid of the pandemic soon.
China, he said, was the first country to inform the international community about the epidemiological situation and the first to control the pandemic, indicating that the origin of the novel coronavirus is a scientific problem that requires scientific and professional counsel.
The Chinese government and non-governmental organisations have provided assistance to foreign countries by donating masks, protective gear, infrared thermometers, ventilators and other medical supplies that more than 140 countries and international organisations, including Jordan, desperately needed, he said.
He noted that Beijing also sent specialized medical teams to 15 countries, and shared its diagnosis, prevention and control expertise with other nations, as well as launching a website to spread prevention and control data and share it with all countries.
The Chinese envoy said that his country also donated $50 million to the World Health Organisation to prevent and control the outbreak and provided support to upgrade the health systems in developing countries.
