The Yonhap News Agency quoted a representative of the South Korean government as saying that the positive results of these tests could lead to the emergence of an effective drug by the end of this year.
According to him, clinical trials of three vaccines will begin in the country before the end of 2020, and a successful and reliable vaccine may appear before the end of 2021.
To speed up trials and tests, the South Korean government allowed the Red Cross to take blood samples for research and clinical trials, and this was previously permitted, only for certain specialized clinics.
To support these tests and research, private companies and institutions plan to open Level 3 Biosafety Labs (BL3), which are essential for safe handling of viruses.
