Arab army officer martyred, one injured in armed confrontation with drug smugglers

According to an official within the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army, a military clash occurred at 4 a.m. Tuesday at the northern border front of Jordan, where dozens of smugglers engaged in an armed confrontation with the Jordanian border guard forces and exchanging gunfire, the smugglers taking advantage of the poor visibility and thick fog to smuggle large quantities of drugs.

The source stated that engagement rules were applied, resulting in the death of several smugglers and forcing the remaining ones to flee into Syrian territory.

The source added that the clash also led to the martyrdom of Warrant Officer/1 Iyad Abdulhamid Al-Nuaimi and the injury of Warrant Officer/1 Salem Muftah Salem, both from the Border Guard Forces. The injured personnel was evacuated to Al-Ruwaished Government Hospital, and his condition is reported to be moderate.

The source affirmed that the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army, deals “firmly and decisively” with any infiltration or smuggling attempt to protect the borders and prevent anyone from jeopardizing Jordan’s national security.

The General Command of the Armed Forces mourns the martyrdom of Warrant Officer/1 Al-Nuaimi, praying that Allah Almighty may envelop him in His vast mercy and forgiveness. They also pray for patience and solace for his family, relatives, and comrades, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
